Procon Hosts Inaugural CMAA NCC Small Business Forum, Fostering Dialogue on Growth and Strategy

Procon Consulting was honored to host the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Capital Chapter’s inaugural Small Business Forum. The event gathered industry leaders for a dynamic discussion on growth strategies and challenges, featuring key insights from Procon’s President, Kyu Jung and Vice President, Sally Clark, CPSM, Past Chair of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Small Business Council.

A central theme was the importance of disciplined growth. Kyu Jung shared Procon’s focused approach, advising leaders to “build your company focus on three areas: Geography, Customers, and Service”. To fuel that growth, he detailed Procon’s “Plus One” strategy of hiring at least one person ahead of the current workload, to proactively grow in the direction of your vision.

Jung also stressed the importance of foundational financial relationships, advising leaders to, “Pick a bank that’s right-sized for your organization. A smaller firm will benefit from a smaller bank that is willing to work with your changing needs.”

The conversation also explored leadership and building a resilient team. Jung offered a counterintuitive goal for business owners: “As a business owner, your goal should be to become the least important person at your company.” This philosophy is about building a sustainable organization by empowering a team you trust to take the firm to the next level. This trust extends to staff, where a flexible approach is key. “Rather than working to get staff to 100% billable, think dynamically and maximize the effectiveness of the individual.”

Procon Consulting thanks the CMAA NCC facilitator, Philios Angelides of The Angelides Group, and all attending firms for a candid and collaborative discussion on elevating small businesses in our industry.
